You could be looking at the crop of the future for the Moree district.
Recently I visited Ross Munro’s property at Moree to inspect is 14-week-old industrial hemp crop, which he’s trialing.
Hemp has a wide variety of industrial uses, consumes one eighth of the water an average cotton crop needs and puts valuable nitrogen back into the soil. It could be a very valuable rotational crop between cotton or cereal crop plantings.
Ross has long been an innovator in our region and he’s trialing both irrigated and dry land hemp crop to see how it grows in the region
For those worried about literally being ‘high on life’ in Moree as a result of this crop – don’t worry – industrial hemp is specifically bred with an incredibly low THC content (the factor that gives you a high) and is also very strictly regulated by both the State and Commonwealth Governments.
